Market movers today
* Markets are in a waiting position for the battle on raising the debt ceiling. There are still no signs of a resolution to the government shutdown.
* US jobless claims will be released today despite the government shutdown. Consensus looks for a slight rise to 315k from 305k last week.
* ISM non-manufacturing is expected to decline to 57.0 in September from last month’s eight-year high of 58.6.
* UK Service PMI has increased rapidly in recent months and it should stay flat at 60.5 in September. This would continue to signal very strong growth in the UK.
* Euro area retail sales are expected to have risen 0.2% m/m in August. Note though, that the indicator is very volatile on a month-to-month basis. Sales have recovered slightly this year as consumer confidence has improved a lot.
* Many Fed members will speak tonight (Williams, Lockhart, Fisher and Powell) but given the many speeches already after the September meeting, we are unlikely to get much new information.
* In Scandi markets Sweden releases services PMI at 08:30 CET.
