Has SEK decoupled from ordinary drivers? The SEK is generally regarded as a cyclical and risk sensitive currency. As such it should depreciate whenever risk appetite decreases (e.g. as measured by the SEB risk appetite index) or when growth is either slowing or expected to slow.

EUR/USD – Recovery extended to $1.27714 in early Europe before demand met stronger supply from a UK name. Rate has pulled back but seen meeting will buyers in the area between $1.2750/40 which is currently keeping it buoyed.

The EUR was lower in Asian trade as investors were reluctant to buy the single currency despite modest gains Tuesday after successful European bond auctions, while many traders were cautious ahead of upcoming Italian and Spanish auctions and the European Central Bank’s policy-setting meeting Thursday.

IMM CFTC: EUR shorts hits fresh record levels again
Investors and speculators continued to sell Euros into the new year and it has now become an issue of selling the European currency against most other currencies. Last week an additional 11.03K contracts were sold bringing the net EUR short position to a new record of -127.9k contracts, the equivalent of EUR 16 billion.

USD/CAD briefly crossing a pivot point around C$1.0150 as the US dollar finds broad favor in the market. The CAD, under pressure amid a general shift in risk assets and retreating oil prices, was nonetheless outperforming its commodity and risk-linked cousins, as is its usual form when the greenback gains broadly.
