AUD/USD Analysis

The pair traded in a narrow range Friday with just a $0.8241 to $0.8282 range so far in Asia. The currency has been dominated today by gyrations in the USD after overnight dropping sharply and then recovering all losses almost immediately after the RBA Governor Stevens’ interview in the AFR was released. In the interview Stevens suggested he’d rather see aussie at $0.75 rather than $0.85, but didn’t stress that they will be pushing to get it there, and also hosed down expectations of a rate cut. Sellers seen at $0.8290/00, then $0.8320/30 and large at $0.8350; bids below at $0.8240/50 the $0.8200. Last at $0.8275, up just 2bps on the session
