AUD/USD Analysis

Aussie opened at $0.9161 and then moved higher in early trades to $0.9180 currently, in the wake of remarks from RBA Dep. Gov Phillip Lowe, which were seen as not quite as downbeat as many had expected. The pair held on to the initial gains through the early hours of the morning, but was generally confined to a $0.9184 to $0.9197 range. Aussie-dollar briefly explored the territory above $0.9200 as the euro gained, tripping off some minor stops there before the gains fizzled out and consolidation then took hold, pushing the pair back down to $0.9177. Aussie-dollar subsequently stabilized around the $0.9190 region in the afternoon, and was last at $0.9188. A close back above the100-day moving average at $0.9280 is still seen as necessary to ease the current bearish focus. Immediate support meanwhile is seen around the overnight low of $0.9144.
