Eurozone: Fiscal Update

Greece

Government reaches deal on austerity and says two-year programme extension agreed: According to Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras, the three parties of the coalition government reached an agreement yesterday on the austerity package, even though the Democratic Left and PASOK socialists have yet to examine in detail the concessions made by the Troika on labour reforms (such as severance payments and the notice period required before layoffs). That said, neither party will move to jeopardise the government or Greece’s ongoing review by the Troika. Today, the finance minister is expected to inform the euro working group that the government has finalised the package of measures, which is due to be presented to parliament next week in two separate bills on austerity measures and labour reforms.
