Terms of Trade Rolling in Clover

After a full-on fortnight, New Zealand’s data diary is relatively light this week. Still, there will be some commodity export price data to take note of, in the context of the recent ructions in financial markets and the ongoing slowdown in China’s economy. Unless prices fall off a cliff they will affirm New Zealand’s terms of trade have ramped right back up over the last 12 months, close to the outright highs of recent years. It’s one of many impulses pointing a strong economic upswing before too much longer, in keeping with last week’s spirited ANZ business survey.
