What to watch for today
USD: Election special. The US goes to the polls today, electing the president, all 435 members of the House of Representatives, and about one-third of the 100- member Senate. Exit polls will be available starting at 7pm EST. Most analysts and prediction markets1 see a status quo result as most likely, with President Obama re-elected, the House staying under Republican control, and the Democrats maintaining a simple majority in the Senate. However, there are two alternative scenarios that remain very much possible, entailing the election of Mitt Romney as president either with or without a switch to Republican control of the Senate.
