We’ve got a busy Asian session ahead with Chinese data galore and an Aussie employment report. The BoJ will also be on tap with its latest decisions on monetary policy.

EURGBP at pivot point ahead of BoE inflation report

EURGBP has risen to a key resistance area, much like the 1.2400+ area in EURUSD. The coming days are a test for both the Euro and sterling, starting with today’s BoE quarterly inflation report.

EURUSD: bears can’t get no satisfaction?

EURUSD squeezed higher into the two key central bank meetings this week until we saw yesterday’s climactic reversal. But so far we’ve seen zero follow-through. Should the EURUSD bears be worried?

Global Technical Watch – Quick Charts

US 30y yields posted a bullish reversal on daily charts last week, and on Friday, US 10y yields confirmed the signal by also posting a reversal signal on weekly charts.

Global Technical Watch – Quick Charts

Yesterday, S&P 500 futures backed away from support near 1320, as did EUR/USD from the psychological 1.20 level. These important hurdles are unlikely to give way without a near-term struggle. As a result, several EUR crosses took the opportunity to stage a short-term bounce.

Global Technical Watch – Quick Charts

The initial bearish signs, such as the Reversal Day in AUD/JPY we noted earlier this week, are snowballing. Further JPY gains are likely across the board, especially as US 10y yields threaten trendline resistance near 1.36%.

Global Technical Watch – Quick Charts

Increased fears are well reflected in the VIX Index, which popped higher yesterday. In line with this, even some orderly downtrends, such as EUR/AUD, posted Bullish Reversal Days.

Global Technical Watch – Quick Charts (Jan 3)

2012 is starting on a small positive note, as EUR/USD is struggling to break through lows seen a year ago at 1.2855/60. The risk is for near-term consolidation, given that momentum in EUR/JPY is also stretched to the downside and near levels last seen in October 2008.

Technical Alert: Looking for correctional highs in EURUSD, EURGBP & EURJPY

EUR advance looks correctional in EURUSD & EURJPY… A correctional top may already be passed in EURGBP… EUR/scandies still trade sideways but lower shadows in EURSEK and loss of downside momentum puts focus on 8.96 above… NOKSEK should test 1.1550\80 before turning lower again (corrective peak already passed if back under 1.1480)…

Technical Alert: Higher oil, stronger zloty & weaker rupee

Only small movements noted – the best of the least in USDINR (1mt NDF) which trades notably higher today bringing the recent 54.83 high back in focus… EURPLN was allowed to accelerate below dynamic support which makes ~4.33 possible (before up)…
