The Westpac-Melbourne Institute of Consumer Sentiment held onto its recent June gain. The overall sentiment index slipped marginally, by 0.1% in July, to 102.1, to be a very modest 3.0% higher on a year ago. Broadly speaking, consumer sentiment is just above its long term average, of 101.4.
